This episode of his life opens the second part of the film, which is the one that talks about revenge. And here begins that escalation of torture and torture , which justifies one hundred percent the distressing title of the film. As in the case of Hostel , if you have no stomach, better forget it: Martyrs is so hard that it is unbearable at times. Audition (1999)
Takashi Miike is one of the most eclectic and prolific Japanese directors ever. The film adaptation of Murakami Ryu’s novel of the same name, “Audition,” follows a film producer who, after being widowed, seeks to remarry. During a casting organized by a friend, the man meets a young woman and, unfortunately for him, falls madly in love with her. Perhaps defining Miike’s work as merely a horror film is an understatement; his visionary cinema flows with imaginaries that are oneiric and blend into an executioner-victim game. The film follows traditional plot styles but then turns into a dark journey into the human spirit. Audition is an intellectual and intense film, which will glue you to the screen, even when you don’t want to know to watch.
